Parent Talks for Schools and Communities
Talks address a range of topics that parents are most concerned about. Using evidence based therapy skills and concepts, I talk about what's really going on in our communities and how to best make changes that improve daily homelife and decrease overall conflict and stress levels. There is a lot of laughing and nodding along while concrete take home skills and tools are provided.
Bring Jennifer Schultz, LCSW, to your school or parent community.
Recent Talks:
The Pressure to Be Perfect: Redefining Success
Somewhere between the weighted GPAs, the packed calendars and the highlight reels on every phone, “doing well” quietly turned into “doing everything, perfectly.” This talk looks at what perfectionism really is, how it differs from healthy ambition, and what it costs our kids (and us). Parents learn CBT tools to manage their own anxiety and to help their teens challenge all-or-nothing thinking. They leave with a healthier definition of success, one that leaves room for mistakes, rest and the kid you actually have.
Raising Resilient Kids: The Art of Stepping Back
It’s a natural biological drive for parents to be protective of their child and keep them from harm. In our modern life, this urge too often morphs into an impulse to prevent our kids from struggling. Somewhere between the travel team schedule and the college essay editing, many of us climbed onto our kid's ride, buckled up and never got off. We feel their disappointments in our own stomachs, their anxiety in our own chests. In this talk, Jennifer Schultz, LCSW makes the case for why the most powerful thing you can do for your child is step back, unbuckle and get off their ride. She'll walk through what over-identifying with your kid's struggles actually costs them (and you), and offer real, doable strategies for stepping back so they can fly.
Surviving the College Process: Supporting Your Child and Making It Out Alive!
The college process can turn a loving home into a tense project management office. Drawing on CBT principles, the session will focus on anxiety management, parent skill-building, and making the shift from parent as director/manager to parent as consultant/coach. Attendees will learn 3–5 practical CBT tools (cognitive reframing, brief exposure strategies, structured problem-solving), plus at-home routines and communication scripts to create a calm and supportive environment during this high-stress period.
